Lil Leland Cafe to open inside Leelanau Books

A new café is opening inside Leelanau Books in Leland, as a collaboration from an local restaurateur and the bookstore.

Sarah Landry, owner of the Redheads café in Lake Leelanau, will open the Lil' Leland Café inside the bookstore, a natural pairing, it would seem. After all, what goes better with a good cup of coffee than a good book?

Redheads, Inc., Landry's company, got a $29,000 loan from the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce to help start up the café, including equipment purchases like a convection oven, refrigeration, and furnishings. It's one of several local businesses to do so.

"The chamber has been great at connecting these businesses with the resources they need," Landry says. "It's also another great networking piece for us. We do a lot of business in Traverse City, and we have a lot of clients in Traverse City."

Leelanau Books had an existing coffee bar inside the store, but it will be totally revamped with Landry's new café, and will offer an expanded menu, a patio area behind the bookstore, and flexible space for events.
