Traverse City Golf Center has new instructor

The Traverse City Golf Center is really positioning itself as the place to learn about golf in northwest Michigan, with the addition of a new director of instruction.

David Layman is joining the center with a dual job title: he'll be director of instruction as well as golf shop manager. He brings 15 years of experience to the jobs, is a PGA professional, and has expertise in teaching, club fitting and repair, as well as golf shop merchandising and technology.

Layman has experience both locally and nationally, having spent eight years as a head golf pro at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Florida and Kent Country Club in Grand Rapids. He also was the assistant golf pro for seven years at Frankfort's Crystal Downs Country Club.

He'll lead new teaching programs, and another addition to the golf shop also will help teach area golfers; two new ES14 launch monitors have been installed to help fit golfers to the best equipment for them using ball motion technology.
