Several northern Michigan health care agencies working to make our communities better are getting some support in that goal, thanks to the
Michigan Department of Community Health.
Funding is going to one-time projects all over the state from Health Innovation Grants, or grants of up to $35,000 that allow community agencies to pursue innovative, creative approaches to improving Michigan's health care systems.
Here in northern Michigan, those recipients are: Centra Wellness Network, and StonesHouse, Inc. Agencies also provide matching funds to stretch the grants further.
Centra Wellness Network is getting $16,000 to integrate technology like mobile and online applications to provide better access to evidence-based self-help resources in 25 northern Michigan counties.
StonesHouse, Inc. is getting $35,000 to support an innovative program in Grand Traverse County that will provide housing to people in active alcohol addiction and struggling with homelessness.
A few grants also are going to statewide programs such as the creation of a smartphone app for medical recordkeeping for patients, seminars for doctors on opioids, and a website to help patients in underserved areas find access to health care.
