Midwest Living rounded up quite an assortment of the coolest summer vacation spots in the Midwest, and northwest Michigan was home to two of the list's choices, Traverse City and Petoskey.
During the summertime National Cherry Festival, Traverse City's population swells from 14,000 to more than 500,000. What's amazing, though, is that this gentrified vacation spot (140 miles north of Grand Rapids) feels even more like a small town during the fest.
